CrazyEgg Increases My Conversions. What About You?

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about CrazyEgg, the crazy web application that serves up a piping hot heat map showing exactly where people are clicking on your site.

Working with the free version limited to 5000 unique visitors tracked, I still gained some valuable info on where people go. For instance, I found out that a blue registration button on my homepage just wasn’t bringing home the bacon, so I sat down to Photoshop and replaced it with a shiny new orange button. The CTR has increased dramatically.

I highly recommend giving CrazyEgg a try. After all it’s FREE and easy to use. You’d have to be insane not to…

Improving Forum Participation Using Conditional Headers

Attracting new members and creating discussions is a daunting task. Even if you’re getting traffic, a forum full of single digit post counts is a big turn off for visitors who aren’t into charity work. But don’t despair! If you’re using vBulletin forum software, there is a great plugin available at vBulletin.org called Welcome Headers - Improve Registration Rates.

This plugin is a must for any forum owner because it will increase your forum activity many times over. It does so by displaying your customized messages prompting the user to:

  • register
  • post (if they have never posted)
  • confirm their email address (in case the confirmation email went to a spam folder)
  • post again (if it’s been a while since they last posted)

Best of all, it’s FREE! All you have to do is download, install and watch your community grow exponentially.

WebMasterRadio - My New TopGear

Here’s what I do to relax since last night. It’s my new favorite way to learn. Last night I was reading some posts on Shoemoney’s site and stumbled upon his “I’m addicted to webmaster radio” post.

Well I had to find out why, right? So in 5 seconds I’m at their site looking through the shows. I’ve downloaded most of the archives of the shows Jeremy recommended to start with, and I can safely say I’m learning so much. I love the info on SEO, blogging, networking, community dev (my specialty), adsense, adwords, and more… It’s nice to hear the experts talking instead of reading some post by a 14 year old at Sitepoint.

I couldn’t be more hyperactive when I recommend that you lock yourself in a room with a notepad, a glass of water, and a few eposides of WebMasterRadio. Listen to the shows below to start:

Using BIG Postits to Increase Productivity

I’ve recently started printing out schedules, task lists, ideas and goals as well as my financial statements, and posting them all on my wall above my 24″ LCD screen. ;) Doing so has really helped me stay more organized and avoid losing my concentration.
